routing inputs in cool edit

I have a standard Sound Blaster soundcard with plain ol' line inputs. Is it possible to route left and right inputs to their own tracks simultaneously in Cool Edit? I've looked everywhere, and I can't seem to finger it out. It seems as if by default everything you record, records down to stereo channels.....
 
Go to OPTIONS-->SETTINGS-->MULTITRACK
Then under defaults select 'mono'.

Next under the multitrack view on track 1 go to the record device properties and select your soundcard and the left channel.

Do the same for track 2 but select right channel.
