I'm also considering the RFX300. Seems to be a good box for $119 (US). Does anyone have experience with this box? How does it compare with the Behringer DSP1000 Virtualizer (not the DSP1000P Pro)?
I just bought the Zoom RFX300 and it came to about $150 w/ shipping. Right now I own a Fostex FD-4, Samsung mic, cheap headphones, and a decent dual tape deck. That is my whole home studio since I am on an extremely tight budget. If you are like me, the RFX300 is perfect. It's got decent mic and cab simulators which is good since I can't afford a mic preamp and a DI box. I usually record my Strat direct and the RFX has improved the sound of that, as well as, the sound of miking my acoustic immeasurably. It also has four cool effects just for mastering your mixdown (Power Mix, Boost Mix, Wide Mix, and Vocal Mix) that definitely improve the overall sound of the recording. The reverbs are better than anything else in the price range. The only thing is that it doesn't have any type of overdrive/gain/distortion, but besides that it has everything else. If you're like me and were broke after getting your MT and a mic, I highly recommend it.
I have the RFX2000, and have been using it in a lot of ways for over a month now. All I can say is that it's fantastic! It works great on warming up vocals (mic simulator) and stale bass/guitar sounds (cab sim). The reverbs are very good, and many of the "special effects" are GREAT. The vocoder is good, too. I just can't say enough about it, but that the more I use it the more I love it.
