Hello, I'm looking at getting the Zoom R4 and have a few questions:
* I know it's got a rhythm effect ... when you use that, do you just assign it to a track and it gets recorded? I would think that's how it works.
* It looks like this doesn't have any final mastering to what you've recorded, is this correct? Not that big a deal I guess but it would be nice.
* How would you go about importing a backing track? For practicing/recording purposes.
Thanks for any input, I'm really intrigued by this little unit ... mostly because it's self-contained, simple, and seems great for putting down ideas.

Hi.

Picked up one of these as well last week. It is a simple, fun little device. Not an expert by any means but, the rhythm track is a separate track and does not take up one of the four recording tracks. When you listen to your completed project, the assigned rhythm track will play. As for mastering, my approach is going to be to export to my DAW and master there. May or May not work, we'll see. For backing tracks, if you connect your recorder to your PC in file transfer mode, all the files and folders on the device are accessible then and you will see that it appears to use the WAV format so, any backing will probably have to be a WAV as well. Theoretically, you should be able to load a backing track in WAV format to an available track then, once the device is back in record mode, bounce the backing track and you should have all four tracks available. As I said, I'm just getting started but, from the research I've done so far, and being a Tech guy, it seems like a logical approach that might work. Hope this helps!
