Has anyone who owns this multi-track had a chance to use
the USB feature....and in particular, on a Mac ?
I was wondering how seamless this really is....
If you need additional software, or if the 1622 hard drive
just appears on the desktop when the USB cable is
plugged in. Also.... any opinions on the phrase looping
capabilities and the MIDI playback features ?

I have a 1266, but haven't bought the USB card yet. The basic unit comes with a program for converting 1266 format to .WAV and AIFF (not familiar with AIFF's). The program is called Audio File Manager. Someone figured out they are 16 bits 44.1Khz files without the PCM header indicating the sampling rate, etc.

Have also heard that some users have pulled the 1266 files (tracks) directly into CoolEditPro, bypassing the supplied converter software. There's some good discussion on this on the sound on sound recording forum.

The 1266 drive appears as 2 drives to a PC (apparently partitioned). The drives are shown in the Windows file explorer. Don't know how that applies to a Mac.

Hope this helps.

Oops...just read this:

The MAC OS & Mac OS X is not supported

Decided on Korg D1200...

Gleas....Well...it really doesn't matter because I decided to go ahead with the Korg D1200.
It comes with the USB connector and it is supported on the Mac. It was also
$200 cheaper and has 2 more tracks. It doesn't have the sampling or MIDI
sequence capability which would be nice, but It has gotten a lot of favorable reviews and
I like it so far...just had it 2 days. I'm sure you'll be happy with the Zoom...
Just don't drop any of these guys !

Need to correct myself again...

Last night when I got home from work I looked in the manual that can with my 1266 and found it DOES support the Mac and a USB port.

The USB manual states:

Supports a Apple Macintoch computer with a USB connector

MacOS9.1 or later (MacOS X is not supported)

The 1266 comes with a CD containing the Mac driver.

That's my final answer.

Celloman - enjoy your new Korg!
