Does anyboby own or has played a Zon bass specially the Sonus 5 string model. Any comments on sound, sustain, workmanship, electronics, type of music you've used it on, or any other comment. Thanks

The composite necks give Zon's a really trebly sound. Needless to say, it'll cut through a wall of distorted guitars like a hot knife through butter, so no fears about getting drowned out (unless you have a weak amp). Workmanship is great. The only Sonus 5 i've played had Barts (I think they all do). They'll give you a nice warm sound that's good for just about any style. Sustain is all there, thanks to excellent construction. Killer B string. One of the best I've ever played.

All in all, it's a great bass. Try one (or any other Zon) out if you have the opportunity.

Thanks Hugh. I know these guys are pricey, so I'm looking for a good deal on a used one. Just in case I don't find one, are there any other basses that would compare to the Zons.

Modulus

I recently found a used Modulus Q5 with $475 worth of upgrades on it for $750 w/case. They have a graphite neck and bartolini electronics as well.

I do believe Zon is the brand of choice for Sepultura's bassist if you want to check it out on some recordings...
