Hi guys,

After contact with Yorkville many many times and now I know the best way to get the YSM1P in my place (I live in Hong Kong and no dealer here).
I almost make the deal and order it. I just want you guys to give me some recommendations in this lastest phase.

I have no experience in mixing music and the reason for me to bought this monitor is to listen pop music and watch dvds (as the front speaker).

I know some of you may say I'm cracy / stupid but I love the sound characters of reference monitors. I heard two monitors before (one is A.D.A.M and one is behringer) and love these two very much.

Based on the reviews / comments from here and I learned that Yorkville's YSM1P is even a lot better than the Behringer's B2031A.

So, in this last check. I want u guys to share some idea with me.
1. How much better do u guys think when compare YSM1P to B2031A (I have no chance to listen to YSM1P and so I want to make sure that it really sound better) (I can get the Behringer's gear in Hong Kong)

2. Is is really good to use monitors to listen pop music?

3. Any tips in setting up the monitors ?( I mean how far should i place the monitors) YSM1P should place very close to ear (nearfield one) or it's ok to place about 8' ~ 10' from the sitting area?

Appreciate any advice. Thx a lot

Get the ADAMs!
yes, the ADAMs is very good but it's out of my budget. If I buy the Yorkville's one, is it good to use it to listen pop music? I will sit about 10 feet away the monitors. is it ok to do so? (are the yorkville's are nearfield one and not suitable to listen from a distance?)

Yo Yu:

How are YOU?

Can't imagine that you can't find some monitors right there in Hong Kong. Someone said there are warehouses in Hong Kong filled with monitors.

I'm surprised Blue Bear didn't mention the KRK monitors. They are made in China and may be very accessible to you in HK.

Certainly you can sit and listen to your music, etc. No problem with a decent pair of monitors.

If I were you, I'd start looking for those warehouses and "listen" to a bunch of monitors.

thx for your advice. i will try to contact the dealer in hong kong to see whether it's good to get a V6 / v8

BTW, how about your new ST 8. How well does the KRK compare to the Yorkville in your opinion?

I am awaiting delivery of the KRKs as I write. One difference between the Yorks and the KRKs is the KRKs have an 8 inch woofer and the Yorks only 6.5 inches.

Can't comment on the tweeter but Blue Bear told me I'd hear a difference.

Odd that ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN magazine would quote a price of 499 USD for the KRKs when they can be had in the US for less than half that price.

Will post when I plug in the KRKs and listen.

I checked with Yorkville's staff and the shipping cost for the Yorkville's YSM1p is about USD 140 (quite expensive IMO)
I also checked with Hong Kong's dealer about the KRK V6 and V8.
The price is out of my budget and so I think I will get the Yorkville

However, do u think 6.5 inches woofer in YSM1p really have big differences between other 8 inch woofer one? (based on some review, the YSM1p's base is not bad at all)

Besides, I am trying to learn to listen some classic music. Do u think monitors (e.g. YSM1p) is good for these?

Any feedback is very much appreciated.

No, the bass isn't bad on the Yorkvilles, for analizing mixes. An 8" is definately a step up, though. Monitors wont have the hyped lows and highs that home stereo speakers have. Consequently, your ears will fatigue faster, due to the mids. I prefer high end home stereo speakers, for listening to tunes and leave the monitors for mixing.

but isn't monitor has less color on the sound?
More, i forgot to ask whether the monitors need to burn-in like home stereo speakers.
