I have a three part question... well might be a 2 part question cause in the time it took me to register I forgot the 3rd one but I'm hoping the illusive 3rd question comes back to me by the time I'm done with the first 2.

ANYWAYS...

Question 1: I just got a laptop and I have audacity on it due to the fact that its free and some guy in a computer help chatroom suggested it to me. I plan on going to school to learn production so I'm not interested in doing anything big right now, I just want to be able to hear whats in my head in my ears. That being said, what is a decent shareware beat generater? Hopefully one that doesnt sound to crappy, but I mostly need something to keep me in time.

Question 2:This is more an opinion survey, as I said before I plan on going to school for production. I can't help but to think of this one friends episode where... the brunette one is talking about a gynocologist she is dating and how she's worried it will cause problems. The comparison she uses to explain it in a pc manner is if you are a waiter serving coffee all day, the last thing you want to see when you get home at night is another cup of coffee. Get me? So what do you think, I love music dearly, music is life but do you think there may be a problem if I am recording/mixing/wtf evering music all day. that when I get home I'll be too burned out to record my own stuff. I can't really see this happening but I don't expect I would be able to from this side of things and I would really like opinions from those who have been there.

Yeah, the 3rd question definitely isn't coming back. Sorry if someone already asked either of these questions but I looked pretty hard and didnt find either.

Thanks a lot,

-ronnie  (heeehee, he looks funny)

Been there. Dont worry, it doesnt work like that.

yeah, I'll have to admit, ther's very little chance of losing your love of music. I get up, first thing I see is my console (well, after my bedroom door, but you get the picture).
I put on my iRiver, and go to work, where I spend all day amongst dV-dosc boxes, mixing, doing system shite, etc, come home early in the morning (still listening to music) and play with my rack gear for a bit. (I have a feeling that the OB/GYN guys would feel the same...)

Your first question, however, is a little more difficult. Decent software usually equals money. You can alwyas try and find a bit of cheap software, like the "junior" versions of Fruity loops etc, or you can try and buy something in a bundle (Cubasis VST, a "junior" version of Cubase, used to bundle with the Audigy 2 platnium).

Or hit up eBay. There's occasionally a bit of cheap software there.

Your third question requires someone with the ability to either read minds and travel through time, and I'm under special orders prohibiting me from doing either of those things again... sorry...
Hope that helps.

I haven't used many Beat generators to be honest, But I've got a copy of Reason 3.0's demo - it'a a great tool for drum loops, samples and synth's. I suggest you at least try it out. It can seem daunting to use at first but once you learn a few things it can be awesome.
