Redid the vocals using my M-Audio Sputnik into my LA610MKII. Then I redid the mix on this one. Let me know what you think of this one - especially the vocal tone as I'm trying to dial in my preamp for the mic.
:D:D:D:D

You - Hamilton Steele

The tone of the vocal sounds fine, but the mix is way too hot. I'd dial it back just a touch, add a bit of reverb to make it sit in the mix, and depending on how the rest of the track sounds, you might need to do a little compression to even out the dynamics.

Hey thanks - I dialed back the vocals and remixed this tonight.... same link above.... :D

Gerry,
Sounds cool to me.
the mic & pre combo comes to around AUS$3,500 at local prices. = wow, you've been investing!
Great song and the mix sounds pretty well settled to me.

Let's see - the pre was 1100 US and the mic was 350 US - both used off eBay in the past year or so. I think they are 1500 and 500 US new on Ebay. My local music store sells for a bit more so I tend to Ebay a lot of my equipment (used usually). Somebody needs to trim back those Aus. prices because that's highway robbery.

Does it sound like the lead guitar is almost fighting with the vocals? Not so much when the notes (from the guitar) are low but when they go higher up the scale it sounds like you may have some competing frequencies. Like they both sound so full and well-rounded that they both want center stage, and the only thing separating them is a slight volume and placement difference. Could you try making the lead a little thinner, at least where it's overlaying the singing?

I was also thinking that the chorus doesn't sound that much fuller than the verses. You know how usually when the chorus comes in, you can tell? Here it all sort of blends together. Is it possible to add a few more things in the chorus, or take away a few in the verses to set them apart a little more? Like they say, the 1-3-2-4 approach- have your first verse come in at 1, your first chorus at 3, then your second verse dialed back to 2 so it's less than your chorus but still more than your first verse, then finally your last chorus at a huge 4. What do you think?

JJ.

Whooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaa yoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuu- great money line!

Thanks Joe. Actually, my friend has the most current project/lead parts on his computer which sound a lot better lol. I'm remixing the vocals on an older project I have (same tracks except leads). I'm going to get him to mix it all over once I'm done with the vocal part (which I hope is now).... Good suggestions for the arrrangement I'll keep it in mind when remixing.

Nice concept for the melody but you need to get some "color" and dynamics in the arrangement. Too much of the same tones......not enough volume separation and modulation. Needs some depth as well. The "stage" is all upfront which congeals the sound into one single on-going tone. All the being said.......it wouldn't take much to transform it from what it is to what it can be. My 2 cents.

I agree with the other comments. All the sounds are good, but they're all way up front and there's no tension or dynamics in the mix or arrangement. The verses and chorus are virtually identical. But the sounds are good so it should be an easy fix.

I concur with the above. A few tweaks to add a bit of dynamics between verse/chorus would really help this song take off.

I really enjoyed the song though, thanks for sharing :thumbs up:

Thanks for the mix checks - Mike is away right now but we should be able to work on this when he gets back.

Excellent tone and clarity on the vocal -- the mic and pre work well together. I would limit some of "ooooo - ing" that runs throughout. I'd bring it in for accent -- when the song kicks up a bit -- but leave it otherwise mostly out. It clouds some of the other parts ... kind of like a background drone.
