You - Hamilton Steele

This is the latest mix of a new tune. Let us know what you think and anything that we might improve upon.
mjhamil - Bass
ido1957 - Vocals,Guitar
Poeticintensity - Drums

Gerry, Mike & PI,
Very nice song.
Apart from the drums it sounds mono.
I like the the bvox.
I wouldn't say it needed more instruments but the stereo image is a little odd.
Maybe you could do a straighht up mono mix.
Really good song.

Adjusted for stereo image a bit (guitar and BU vocal mostly), better? Same Link

I think this can be made much wider. Don't know what you're working with, but you could start with the guitar, maybe duplicate or double it, pan wide, and delay one side a smidge. I find eq'ing the sides differently, or even re-amping one side can give great depth.

PON,
Cloned and delayed will simply mean that the non delayed version will be heard 1st & the delayed clones will move back in the image that conscious hearing is aware of.
Mike,
It didn't make a lot of difference but is enough.
Particularly during the solo.
It's a difficult trick with simple instrumentation.
I'd be inclined to go full mono.
The other option is Beatle/EMIAbbey Rd early steree mixing.

Yeah with three instruments it's tough getting a really wide image (except drums which are quite stereo in comparison). We'll try a few more things and see what we can do... Any suggestions are appreciated.

I like it. The drums are pretty insanely wide for the rest of the mix, but that's fixable. Pan out the guitar and bass a little. Or reel in the overheads. Or record more guitar tracks. I could easily hear some soft palm muted clean rhythm tracks chugging along underneath it all. The drum compression is pretty hard though. The cymbals sound like they're getting hammered. I can hear it in the ping of the ride and the way the crashes sustain. Something is killing the overheads. But anyway, the rest is good. Nice sounds and tones.

Nice tune. I haven't got anything to say about the sound. Think the song sounds great. Really sweet melody and nice sounding vocals. Like the slow bluesy rhythm. Good slow dance song. :)

Vocalist has a Burton Cummings sound in your face...cool

Track is full for so few instruments

Clear mix...I would probably want a little more arrangement-wise mid-way through to the end...but that is personal preference

My thought would be I would've added Orchestral strings at the end...really dramatic and accentuated counter melodies....it would take her home a bit more

Nice tune....

Everything sounds well captured and well played. Vocals are good as always with your tunes Ido and the backing vocals work well.

Arrangement wise I do think it needs something more to add a little more depth, body or texture. Nothing too elaborate, but just a little bit extra. Actually Greg's suggestion of an extra chugging, rhythmic guitar line is a good one - I'd be interested to hear how something like that worked.

Greg_L, FTG, Steve,Rob.... thanks for the feedback. We're going to try the "wet" version of the drums that Jason sent us to see what impact it has on the cymbals ringing so much. We'll also try a couple of different additional guitar tracks and try and pick one that works to increase the stereo image. Should have a new version sometime this weekend...

May I ask which vocal mic you are using and your interface?
