Cool ido! I think this sounds really good. The new drum sound is cool and the whole thing seems to be panned in a way that makes it more spacious than I remember of other mixes of yours. The guitar solo sounds great. I like the walking bass...it has an odd, almost rubbery sound to it, but I kind of like that. Nice work :).

Sweet...sounds good....dig the collab thing.

Hey Poeticintensity....not to be pretentious, but if I come up with something half decent in the future would you consider laying down a drum track for it so I can ditch the drum machine?

Of course, it might take a while before I get something half decent. :o

Thanks ! I panned them a little wider this time to make some room for everything. The bass is a Rickenbacher 4001 through a Fender 400 bass amp no effects just straight off the head.

Thanks! The drums really help the overall song in a big way... I think Jason might be available ;)

Absolutely. I'm trying to get more money so I can upgrade my studio, so, I'm drumming for as many people as I can. Some people pay (which I am very grateful for), and some don't (which is still fun). My site can be found at advancedonlinedrums.com

As soon as you have something ready for drums, lemme know. We'll work something out for sure.

Jason just got a new set of drum mics and sent me the track last night. I'm diggin the new drum mix - sounds nice and bright with some thump on the kick.

Yeah... The more I use these, the more I can't believe the difference. I was previously using the Audix F15 and F10 for the overheads and kick, respectively. I upgraded these to an Audix D6 for the kick and a pair of AT4041's for the overheads. I don't think I could have made a better investment, as far as recording drums goes. The overall EQ is amazingly more smooth, and the kick is simultaneously more controlled, and more punchy.

If anyone wants drums, please let me know! Woo hoo!

Also, Gerry, the song sounds fantastic! You've become quite adept at getting those drums to sit very nicely in the mix. Keep up the good work!

I want drums! I can't pay much, but I may be able to pay a little :D

By the way, great song. Sounds good all around. Cool little tune.

Very cool tune. Nice rockabilly feel to it and it swings. Certain parts I might have nudged the vocal up a little farther, but it's all good.

Nice collab. Mix is well balanced but I'd like to hear more compression on the vocals, make them more present at the front

Ive always enjoyed this song - in all its permutations!
My only request is that you bump up the intro guitar as the drums come in as the terrific line gets buried. THe song reminds me of good ol'Buddy Holly - he did some superb hillybilly rock with Bob Montgomery.
yep, just lift the intro over the drums & it's sweet.

Loving the drum sound and particularly the bass drum sound. Bass hits nice on my monitors. Vocals are smooth, I like the treatment on them. I was able to understand every word though I can see how you might want to raise them a touch. Guitars sound nice, really like the solo. Very cool song.

Take care

Gary

A little goes a long way!! You'll be happy you did!

Hey M1 and BH! - I compressed to about -28db @ 4:1 I think. I'll try a bit more and then nudge them up a tad.

Cool Ray,,,,,I'll add a volume/pan envelope to up and center it...

Thanks Gary - Drums do sound great don't they. I'll look into raising those vocals a bit...

:D:):D:)

Wow, I really like this song. Great melody, great lyrics and well produced. Drums are much better than previous mixes, though I think overheads could come up a tad.

There's one nit in the lyrics; You've got these two lines back to back:

Your mama says “Son don’t you come here no more!”

I ain’t waitin’ ‘round here no more

Maybe something like, I ain't waitin 'round just to be ignored. Or something... IDK... lots of possibilities.

Cool tune, Ido.

Hey Gerry, this is great!
And Jason's drums sound very good.;)
I can't find anything wrong with the mix. Some background shoobie-doo-wap vocals would give it more colour, but that's just an idea. Nice work, very enjoyable and your voice sounds great on this one!

Joey :):):):)

Rockabilly..that's the genre! Your music is always upbeat ido..even when ya got the blues! I can't recall anyone so happy to be blue!!!:D

Kudos!..and congrats on your colab..it worked great!

I Like the song. I did notice that it has very little top end to it (highs) The ride needs to come up because I don't think it's defined enough for the kind of style it is. Good job tho.

Sounds pretty good. PI's drums are definitely getting better. Needs more bass gtr and definitely some doo-woppy backing vox. The lead sounds a little too much like the rhythm guitars. Slap some fat spring reverb on the lead tracks for authenticity. :D

Thanks Chili! I'll defer the overheads to Jason to see what he thinks...

Thanks Joey! Agreed - Drums are nice with the new mics...and... I might add some more vocals after.

No mastering on this one so highs could happen at that stage. Right now it's basically off the floor with some reverb/vocal comp.
Another deferral to Jason about drums but I'm happy with them!

Thanks Greg! Lots of good ideas for a remix!
Appreciate your opinion on the drums - they sound good to me but I'm a novice in that department. Anything sugestions as to what you would change/add/subtract?

Well, I'm still getting used to these new AT4041's for overheads. The old F15's were super-bright, and I ended up having to turn them down with almost every mix, but then I'd have to EQ the high-end to get some sparkle. These AT4041's are exactly the opposite. Overall, they're much more smooth-sounding, and have a natural sparkle, so I'm needing to turn them up, without EQing them. I'm gettin' there.

As far as the ride goes, I imagine that the smoothness of the overheads is contributing to the lack of the ride being pronounced. I'll work with the EQ to see if I can't get it to pop a bit more.

For the drums? They sound pretty good for this song. Sounds like it's a little overhead heavy for my tastes though. If you have it, try bumping in more of the close mic'd snare and get the snare a little crisper. A little more kick too.
