I got a call from a friend of mine that runs a music store telling me about this new mic he just got in from Yorkville and, get this, the capsule is made for them by Neuman. It's a side address large diaphram model. Has anybody heard anything about these?

Reminds me of a lot of other mics (I've named them all multiple times, here). And I probably would have heard by know if Neumann did make ANY of those mics' capsules; and I know where a lot of those capsules in those mics came from.

I went up and took a look at it. It's like everyone and their brother is making a side address mic for $300 and they're all mostly toys. I'm going to take it home for a few days and road test it against some other mics. By the way, I took possession of my Octava 319 (from the Sound Room) today. I think I'm gonna like it.

Hope you like it.

Noi-man, Newman, tomato, tamahto, pecan, pee-can,,,, who cares!
I say newman myself.

R.E. He let me take it home to torture. I've been jingling keys in front of it and recording acoustic guitar thru it as well as some other mics. The jury's still out.

So far, it's above the C-3000 and below all the others. The top end sounds a lot like the 414's but a little more strident. Really not a horrible mic at $210.

If it's above the C3000, then it's probably worth the $210... But you should compare it to a Rode NT-1 before making that call. If it holds its own to that, then I'd say it's worth it.
