yet another stupid MR-8 ?

Hi,

As you can see, I am new to this forum. I assure you that I did a search before posting but was unable (for whatever reason) to find the answer to what should be a very simple question.

How do you load in the software upgrade for the MR-8???

The .pdf file alluded to in a couple of threads is non-existant and I have tried looking on the Fostex site for help, to no avail. I'm at a loss. I also tried copying the unzipped file to a CF card and turning on the unit but it goes to a particular screen and won't move.

I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Are you using the CF card that came with the MR8?

Have you tried re-downloading the upgrade and repeating the process?

How long did you wait for the MR8 to update itself?

Many thanks. The info you linked me to was showing as "URL not found" last night and I guess that's why I was so frustrated. I've done the procedure with one minor exception. I copied the file to the CF card with a reader, not with the USB cable. The one thing I hadn't devined was that you had to press "STOP" and then power up the MR-8. Once I learned that trick, it went perfectly. Thanks for the help.

BTW, One good thing came from this, I discovered this forum!

There are quite a few people who come through here who are much more experienced/knowledgable than I am, so come on back if you have a problem.

Don't forget the handy search function @ the bottom of each forum, very useful in a bind and/or when no one is on the forum to assist immediately...

Thanks again. Now that I've found this board, I will be back on a regular basis. There have been many questions about the MR-8 on the other forum I frequent. I think I'll post this URL. It's a classical guitar forum :cool:.

I have used the MR-8 for about a year and really love it. I hopw they upgrade the software to allow the use of the new CF hard drives that are out. 5 gigs of storage in this unit would make it a great little recorder (er... greater, that is).

Your link, btw, worked fine. I had tried to locate the same page different way the night before I posted and ran into the roadblock I mentioned. I don't know if it was a server glitch or what but I couldn't get to the page.

I did try the search function before I posted and couldn't get to the info I wanted. Sometimes you enter the search terms you think are appropriate and they lead nowhere. Such was the case here.
