It is really annoying for me to finally get a higher end soundcard (Audigy Platinum) and then has HS 2002 go completely off the deep end. Specifically, it reboots the computer while trying to open files or attach soundfonts... no error message or the like. It seems to be loading just fine and then bang, it just shuts down the computer.

Typically, the projects I am trying to open are not all that large, and contain only a few MIDI tracks. I'm also not running any other program at the same time. My operating system is Windows 98, which I just re-installed recently.

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on what should be done before saving a project, such as making sure that no tracks are muted, armed, etc. I say this from the perspective of an AutoCAD user who knows that there are certain unsaid tricks of the trade that ensure files can be opened easily.

Are you trying to use WDM drivers with your Audigy? These drivers don't seem play nice with Win98. You might try looking for a setting within HS2002 that says "use MME drivers even when WDM drivers are present." You won't get extremely low latency settings with MME drivers, but you should at least get the program to work until you can move to a different OS.

BTW, around here SB Live and Audigy are not considered "high end" sound cards. Sorry.

If you'd seen the old card I'd had, you'd think the new one was beyond cutting edge.

I agree with dachay2tnr. Any potential performance gain you could get with WDM drivers is lost in 98. 2000 or XP would be a better choice. The overall stability of your system would improve as well.

I use HS2002XL and XP with a Soundblaster Live and Audiophile 2496 with no problems whatsoever.

Are you runnning the latest version of DirectX? Is your soundcard sharing an IRQ with another device?
