yet another diffusor

in my undying quest for creating a diffusor, i have run across a bunch of moulding that has been given to me. i had an idea of mounting these in 2 ft x 2 ft panels. all the moulding is maple. what do you guys think of using wood for diffusion? and what about the design? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lynn, wood is fine for diffusors - some of the commercial ones are made of MDF and painted.

The limited depth of this design would only diffuse higher freqs, I'm guessing down to maybe 1000-1500 or so at best. If you need lower, you need depth. Commercial QRD's at 16" max depth only go down to around 300.

A lot depends on what you need, and where - after the basic modal checks, it's either a lot of listening/tweaking, analysys software, or both... Steve

would the inside of those be filled or left vacant? If filled, with what? And, if they were filled the affected frequencies would be raised, right?

i dont know, i was hoping to determine whether i would put fiberglass insul. behind them. i am not sure how much good that would do. the idea in using wood was from another discussion about wood floors "sounding good".

Lynn- yes they will act as diffusors but only in the higher frequencies. How about you alternate them on a wall with 2' x 2' cloth covered fiberglass like a chess board.

i have auralex on the walls already in a checkerboard fashion. if there is foam on one wall, the wall parallel to it doesnt have any, and that is where i would put the diffussors. but, only in the bottome ring of foam.
