Hi,

I'm looking for a new compressor.
I went down to the audio store, and this is basically what they had available in my budget (+-600$):

- DBX 266 (Only 250$) -> Would buy 2 then
- Focusrite Penta
- TC Electronics Triple C (Heard lot of different opinions on those)
- Mindprint En-Voice (A tad more expensive...)
- RNC (Not in shop.. but might order them from FMR Audio)

Notice that some models have a mic preamp built in. I consider a nice preamp to be a bonus.. certainly over my Tascam M2524 mic pre's.

Anyone used one of those? And what do you think of them.

Any other suggestions in that price range.

Thx,

Stefan

PS I'm from Belgium, so prices might differ a bit from US. (Mostly more expensive :D)

Of the ones you mention,

* I think it's safe to say that the RNC is the best compressor.

* The Mindprint is likely the best all-in-one box.

* TC and Focusrite have perhaps the most respected names of the bunch.

* Don't even bother with the dbx 266 (not that it's bad -- just that you can do much better for the money).

If you consider having a good mic pre a bonus, then the Mindprint is probably your best bet. Clean, quiet, detailed. Lots of satisfied users on this board (myself included). The Focusrite supposedly isn't bad (heard very nice things about it's EQ).

The only ones I have absolutely no experience with are the TC or the dbx.
