Here's a little comedy relief after all the Challenge stress

I Get Up I Get Down from Close To The Edge by Yes.
Ah...did I mention that it's Techno/Lounge/Elevator music?

Yes is my favorite band. And now to your rendition.
AHHHHhhhhhhhh!!!! General midi??????

YES is one of my all time favorite bands..............
ELP is probably second followed by Steely Dan and Zeppelin...

yup.....General MIDI.....

Dim,
You live in Mass. right?
we can get soundfonts in Mass. too man.........ya know?....
Your playing is great....cool Muzak.....it's your choice of sounds that is in question....especially the drums man...
I just use the sounds that came with my K-mart keyboad as .WAVs but,
it sounds like this is programmed...ergo....you have a wealth of sounds available to utilize in your recording...

Good performance man...
Joe

I was licking my chops when I saw 'Yes cover,' but this was more of an interpretation I guess..

fun!!

It's amazing how you made Yes sound like the Cure..

I only heard a few seconds...

I was hoping to hear that part where the organ chord/solo goes on for like a minute.

And the funky breakdown after.

Is there more?

The second time it worked better.
That is funny.
The vibes especially.
Still want to hear the organ solo part.

Phew!
I was beginning to think no one had a sense of humor when it came to music.

It's not General Midi (I don't think)

The bass, drums and harpsichord are a preset "style"
from my Yamaha DJX keyboard.
Everything else was played on the DJX.

The DJX is a pretty handy tool. You can edit the presets (drop out instruments you don't want) especially when time is of the essence.

I always thought some brassy diva coulda had a hit song with this.

Anyone who covers yes songs is cool with me. I played many covers of yes on bass (Squire is my idol) when I was a wild teen bassist in the 70's. Unfortunately the cover band I was in could not rise up to the challenge of playing yes so we stuck to the "usual classics".

Good tune!

Do you mean "DGX"??

I have a Yamaha DGX - 202....
is that it?

Joe

Sounded like Davemania Devotion to Yes.

I can see you hear Yes a little differently from my memories of them: you've interpreted this as a disco background.

Now get to work on the rest of the song.... LOL!

Nope, it's a DJX.
They came out with it about 5 yrs ago. Geared toward the Techno/Dance/Rave scene. It also has Cut-off and Resonance knobs which are pretty cool. There's a DJX II out now.

The drums ARE cheesy. I could replace the drum track with some loops of real drums. Maybe I'll see if I have a loop with will match-up well.

There's nothing funny about that recording. I thought it was pretty darn good.

Sounds were very present & clear. Voicings were cool. Had a nice, mellow, pop drive to it. Could be the basics of a really nice fully produced number. Tracks, as is, sound great.

Of course, I've never heard the original, but this cover is okay in my book. I don't doubt that with the right elements, this could be a hit song. It's pop, all the way.;)

I've seen the DJX. They blew a lot of them out at Costco, back when I used to shop there.

Nice. I was totally looking for the 18 minute version.

Yeah man, YES was my favofite band too! I have some covers I'll dig up and post for fun. :-)
