I found a yamaha ypp35 at a pawn shop for $145 bucks, I'm looking for a keyboard I can use for a controller but still have something good to play without the computer, this thing seems decent, does anyone know anything about it? Or maybe something to compare it to?

It's basic but it will work. It's an electric piano with a few extra sounds.

Find the manual here .

It responds to a 'Local On/Off' command which is necessary for sequencing. You'll need to download the shareware MidiOx in order to send the local off command over midi -- it's Continuous Controller number 122, and sending a zero value will probably turn the local to 'off', breaking the connection between the keyboard and the sounds inside.

Are there other keyboards you could suggest? Price doesn't really matter.

Buying the keyboard and downloading Midiox --- which everyone who does any work with midi should have on their computer --- sounds like too much work or trouble to you?

This keyboard will do the job you need done. It's basic, but if you find that you enjoy making music in this way it's a fine, low-investment way to get started.

You can always upgrade later, and if as you say 'price doesn't really matter' then you will have literally hundreds of choices from dozens of manufacturers.

My recommendation --- buy the ypp35 and see how you like making music, both with and without a computer involved.
