ciao a tutti!

I want to play my midi files made with a Yamaha QY100 with Cubase SX through a Soundblaster Live.

How can I preserve the original Yamaha XG sounds libraries?

You can't. You might get close in one of two ways:

(1) You might find a Sound Font for the SB Live that someone made by recording or importing the sounds from an XG synth.

(2) You might find a softsynth that has the Yamaha XG soundbank in it.

But why not just keep using the QY as a MIDI sound module and control it via the SB Live's MIDI interface?

because we'll do the final mix with a laptop which hasn't got any midi I-O.

our solution is to record midi tracks as wave files and then mix them like all other tracks.

in a couple of weeks we'll buy a 828mkII and I suppose the things will be better.
