yamaha sy35 help

I just got my first set of keys, a yamaha sy35 off ebay. Anyways, I can access the preset single voices just fine. However, when I try to get to the 'multi' voice patches, I get no sound (but the lcd display shows preset names.) Was I screwed over when I bought the synth or am I just stupid? BTW, anybody know where i can get the manual for this thing?
 
Here is where you can download a PDF version of the manual. I found it with a single Googling.

Google is your friend.

It's an older synth and maybe the previous owner wiped out the multis either by accident or on purpose. After you download the manual there will be instructions in there to reset it to the factory fresh programs and multis.
 
I have a TG-77 (rack version of the SY-77) so it should be similar. Try playing around with the midi channels since Yamaha multi's usually are set up on multiple midi channels
 
I'll try all thats been suggested and get back if it still doesn't work. Thanks for the help guys! especially the pdf file!
 
"multi" voices still don't work after reseting to factory settings. am i sol?
 
Apparently.

Those where second only to the SY22 in Yamaha's bargain basement construction sweepstakes...
