ricbo hello Fellas! and happy hollween!!!

but anyways, do anybody up in this joint know about the yamaha rm1x sequencer? I read alot of good thing about it around the internet , but i need some info live and direct from somebody that actually came face to face with it.

Does it have loop record on it?
can you make track louder or lower than the other?
Can u mute and unmute tracks at the push of a button?
is the sequencer easy to learn?

these are the three major things i need in a sequencer and i have just enough cash for the rm1x. would the rm1x be my best bet?

all help would be greatly appreciated. peace!

hi uuj!

i own this thing since it was out and i'm quit happy with it.
I mainly sequence via Logic Platinium 4.7 using my Quasimidi Cyber-6 master kbd/Roland octapad and use the rm1x only for live gigs and the free programable knobs for realtime input (and layouting fat beats in my bedroom).

pro:
.) 16 track hw sequencer
.) superb timing down to 1/480
.) easy to learn
.) nice effects who can be used as inserts or system routing
.) sounds are not the best but overall ok
.) big display

con:
.) no velocity sense keyboard
.) strictly pattern oriented in pattern mode - otherwise you have to use the 'song' mode.
.) only 3 different effects available for all 16 tracks at the same time.
.) only 2 outs
.) no sampling
.) sounds can only be changed slightly (compared to my kurzweil *gg*)

management summary :D

If you're into rap/rnb/hiphop then buy a Akai MPC. If you're into electronic or a rookie then go for the rm1x

oops, forgot to answer your questions:

> Does it have loop record on it?
a pattern loops automaticly

> can you make track louder or lower than the other?
yep, there is a fine graphical mixer

> Can u mute and unmute tracks at the push of a button?
yep, there is a mute mode + 5 free programmable mute groups

> is the sequencer easy to learn?
indeed

greets,
Mark

the RM1X and RS7000 sequencers are the best "live" hardware sequencers out there.
Once you learn how to shift and alter patterns on the fly you're absolutely gonna kick any mpc-head out of the room. The RM1X and RS7000 are the absolute future in live sequencing.. a doepfer device would beat it on a 3 track scale but the rm1x got 16 and it can't be beat.
the rs7000 got 200,000 events per song which is the most on any hardware sequncer out there...
It's also got one hell of a sampler (can be compared with any emu sampler) and one hell of an audio module...
now why is that such a big deal??? well.. cause this machine NEVER goes down, it NEVER click and pops, it totally ROX at sequencing and you wouldn't believe the editing you can do on the fly...

hi chriss!

is the audio engine of the rs7000 that much better than the rm1x?
Compared to my Kurzweil, Trinity and S3000 mine lacks of the wide editing possibilities for the sounds.

How many mono outs do the rs7000 have? The rm1x only have 2 outs (L+R).
thx,
Mark

you can get an expasion I/O board for the RS7000 which provides more outputs and a digital I/O.. believe it makes 8 total..
I've tried the sounds and i must say some of them are extremely good.. and the drum sounds are way more powerfull cause you have an onboard compression on the beast

btw, the sequencer on the rs7000 is a bit cool in this way:
You can have an entire sequence (song) created. then you can slice pieces out of it and make patterns off them, which you then can perfect... then you just put them back in the sequence, altered... now mpc, i'd like to see you do that!

If yamaha has spent a velocity sense keyboard this gear looks realy great, do they?

yes, well.. the Motif stations have velocity sensitive keyboards and are based on the rs7000 engine, but the action is not as much "on the fly" as the rs7000... On the other hand you can expand the motif with modular synth expansions...

its pretty good..i use to have one...all the tracks on my site that has lyrics on them were made on the RM1X

I had the rs7000...its cool..but after I got my mpc3000 I never looked back..it aint close to killin no mpc..if you think the more is better approach is you, then you might as well go the software route..i know of two good beatmakers who use the rs7000 and they are getting rid of it one for mpc and the other is going software.I gave my rs7000 to my boy who has a shit load of equipment example..sp1200..mpc..asr10 etc etc..and he tried making some beats on it and said he didnt like it and he makes beats professionally...he tried selling it to one of his partners and he said the same thing..and he also makes beats professionally. Now there was some things i liked about it and if you can find one for about $300 its a steal if you on a budget.
here is a link to my friend who uses the rs7000 and is gonna get an mpc..these songs were made with the rs7000

http://www.myspace.com/rasan

you can make a beat on any machine once you learn it..optin for a mpc or sofeware isnt always the answer..people need to take the time to learn their equipment..I sold mines cause my friend wanted to buy it real bad..cause he had it before and wanted another one..so I sold it to him..and since i have a XL-7 Command Station..it wasnt a big deal...the machine can do what you want but the sounds are a little 80ish..but if you tweak and play around you will be creating hip-hop/r&b/dance/rock tracks or whateva you want on it..

just learn your machine..

unless you want to sample then get a mpc

I use to have that piece to man, but it seemed more suited towards latin hip hop than anything. I also use to have the yamaha rs 7000. It was pretty hot in sounds, but i never got into it. I now have the motif and the sounds in the motif are sick. I've had the motif for about 4 years now. I might start getting back into it and just do all my beats off that piece instead of using software. aLL I NEED TO DO IS IMPORT DRUMS INTO AND I'LL BE SET BIG TIME. The drums are the only weak part in it. Once i add some drums i can add some sick ass keys to the beats.

Proberly a stupid question but can you use the rmx1 as a stand alone macine as in if I buy one can I use it on it own as a groove box utill I can afford to buy more stuff ?

Sorry for the newbie question
