I'm trying to figure out why my Roland xv-2020 voices won't quantize to my Yamaha qy100 sequencer as the good guys over at Sam Ash told me they would. :) The voices will load to the qy tracks. The qy does play them back. However, they won't quantize and they won't be edited.

I really love the sound of the Roland voices over the Yamaha. I bought the sequencer for the sole purpose of slaving the voices, drums and basses to the Tas. 2488. The brass, woodwinds, strings and all else gets played realtime. ;)

I would be ever grateful :o for someone experienced in this area. Please don't tell me I have to "break down" and introduce my PC to my recording enviornment just so I can do all the sequencing, quantizing and editing.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'the voices will load to the QY tracks'. The QY100, in your application, is a midi sequencer and will send midi data only to the receiver, in this case the 2020.

Quantizing should be easy if you're really in sequencer/slave module mode. The fact that you can't quantize means you probably have some other problem, possibly related to a misunderstanding of the sequencing process.

And without SysEx or Continuous Controller access you can't expect to edit the Roland voices from the QY100.

Please post again and describe in detail what is connected to what --- don't leave anything, even the audio connections, out...

What is "sequencer/slave module mode"? Do I find them in the 2020 or the qy or both?
I'm playing back the 2020 voices via the qy sequencer. None of the "job" section procedures read the 2020. Or, vis-versa. There-for, because the quantize area is in the "job" section they are not communicating.

Thanks. Please stay tuned for more. I'm not giving up and I'll pay you a million dollars if you can help me resolve this problem.

I'll settle for half a million and the rest in gold bullion. :p

You need to read up on your midi basics before we go any further. These are two articles from a magazine called Sound On Sound that I find very helpful. They are 10 years old now, but the midi spec hasn't changed...

Here's a link to part one and part two.

OK, so when would you like to receive the first installment of bullion?
Still learning. Still grateful.
