Well ..........you can use the aux and monitor sends.

Well ............. that's pre and post fader so with that knowledge just be careful of what you do with the channels fader.
Do you need more than two outs? what do you have for an interface?

currently i dont need more than 2 outs. I was just wondering what it was capable for future reference.

thanks for your help though!

and im currently running a line 6 toneport UX1. but i have an mbox2 on order.
just trying to expand my knowledge.

Cool I thought you needed more channels to record, say drums, and had a 8 channel interface. Does the mixer have direct outs on each channel?

Thats what i mean, im looking into getting a 001 or somthing later in the year. each channel only has XLR + Jack inputs and then inserts. could i some how run it through the inserts? if perhaps i used a mono patch cable?

Yes, you can record from the inserts. There are several ways to tap signal from inserts. The best for studio is to use a patch bay. Next best is to make or buy insert tap cables, TRS on the insert end with tip and ring wired together and wired to the tip of a TS on the other end. You can also simply stick a mono cable into the insert to the "first click". If you do that I recommend making spacers so the plugs don't get pushed in. Use 1/4" inside-diameter fuel hose and cut 1/4" pieces that you can slip on the 1/4" plugs.

Well......I wouldn't but lets see what others here think.

Because?

Unbalanced lines shouldn't be an issue in a small studio with short runs. The connection can be made reasonably secure.

so i just take it out of the insert, into the interface? that will bipass the rest of the channel though wont it?

so whats the best way for this then? patch bays or what?

Because I'm not sure of how the other person wants to be set up.
I've done this on live recordings off of our FOH board but not with stellar results.

wouldnt be ok though, because i could monitor and everything through protools?

because using inserts would pass the built in channel EQ and verything wouldnt it?

Yes you would insert right after the preamp.

You could, but notice that low latency mode isn't called zero latency mode. What I've been doing is setting up the 7/8 out as a monitor buss for recorded tracks into the mixer, then monitoring the live tracks directly through the mixer. Voila, zero latency monitoring with PTLE.

On most small mixers, yes. But you've got plenty of decent eq ITB.

If you use the pre-fader aux sends of the board for your headphone mix you can use the main faders for the control room mix. Then you can listen to the live sources in various ways while getting tones and tracking.
