hey guys.
I was asking the other day for your opinions on a Yamaha M512.
Now a MX 12/6 appeared @ $370 of your bills (remember I am from that poor country called Argentina).
I mainly want it to add pres to my Digi 001, and it seems to be a good choice.

It has like 3 groups plus the main stereo out and it also has 3 aux sends.

Do you know the quality of the pres, and how do they compare to the Digi's 001 , just to have an idea?

Thanks very much for your help. Cheers, Andrés

Compralo ya, Andres!

I don't know how the pres compare to the Digi001, but I have an MX12/8 (the same thing as what you're looking at except with 4 groups) and it's pretty solid. I haven't noticed a humongous difference between its pres and the pres on my Omni Studio (which are supposedly pretty good). I don't have any complaints about it. I paid $450 American for mine.

great, thanks for the help.

I don't know that the Omni. Do you route different the separate channels to the computer? If so, how do you do it, thru the groups or the channel inserts? Or is it there another way?

I use the groups. I only have a four-channel soundcard, so that's all I need. I think I could get eight outputs by using the inserts on the first four channels and sending the next four channels to the groups. I've never had cause to try, though.

Whoopy: I have one question about this mixer.
The groups buttons on each channel says 1-2 and 3-4. How do you route to one of them -for example to group 1- and not both , you use the PAN/BALANCE as in the small Fostex 4 tracks?

Thanks in advance, Andrés

You have the right idea. The pan knobs are labeled '1,3' on one side and '2,4' on the other, so if you press the button for groups 1 and 2 and turn the pan knob all the way to the left, your signal goes to group 1.

What's the term for mixer in Spanish? Mezclador?

thanks Whoppysnorp. And your cat is still giving me the creeps :-)

The linear translation would be "mezcladora". But "consola" (console) is the most used. There's also a lot of people that uses the word "mixer" directly. This is common in lots of terms, since english words tend to be shorter and are easier to relate to the english manuals, magazine articles, and all the english literature (which is far better and bigger than ours).

We use english words like plug, hihat, gate, cpu, mother(board), give me money, etc...

Cheers, Andrés

Me imagino que esta frase sea muy util en Argentina en estos tiempos.
