I think I posted this thread in the wrong place. Anyway, does anyone own one of these machines. It was advertised as an eight track multitrack cassette recorder, but now that I have it in my hands, I have found out that you can only record four tracks at the same time. I really like the specs and as far as my ear is concerned, I find it to be everything I need. I found it online and got it for a song pricewise. Would like someone to tell me more about the MTX8II and if there is a way to make a true 8 tracks recorder out of it.

This is how many budget recorders work. To cust production costs you can't record on all channels at one time, which usually isn't a problem unless you want to record everything live.

For example, the Fostex A-8 came in a more expensive version called A-8LR, for "Live Recording"

I don't think that any of the 8-track portas can record an all tracks at once, but I may have missed one that can. I'm pretty sure the Tascam 238 standalone tapedeck can. And them theres reel-to-reel of course, but that is more expensive.
