I've just recently started home recording, and coming across this site has helped, but the Yamaha MT1X I was going to use has developed a hitch; the cassette won't spin.

From what I can tell, the capstan isn't touching the pinch roller, so it isn't being pulled across the head. I can still rewind and fastforward, and the capstan itself is still rotating, so is it likely that a belt is broken somewhere?

Has anyone had any experience with a problem like this? I have little experience with cassette systems, but I'd like to find out if its something I can repair before I go and pay someone to do it for me. Thanks.

Dunno what your comfort level is, but if it was me I'd probably be tearing the thing open and seeing how it works...the pinch roller actuator, and see if something looks broken.

Not many/any here that I know of that have torn open an MT1X, but there are certainly going to be similarities to other units that are more common around these parts.

If you open it up and take pictures of what you are seeing and then post them up here I'm sure you'll get some opinions/advisement.

HaHA! Thanks a lot Sweetbeats, all it need was some finaglin inside the unit, I get the feeling this machines a touchy lady. If I had a better camera I'd take pictures anyways, but they're a little too out of focus.
