yamaha motif

Hey everyone
i have the yamaha motif synth and i was wondering if you would suggest getting a midi controller too. i am an 18 yr old getting into the recording side of music and ive been learning protools for 2-3 years and im starting to get all the peices of my recording studio together.

would u suggest getting a midi controller to go with the motif or can i just continue using the motif to do my midi stuff?

also i dont have an mpc or anything like that im not quite sure as to the purpose of those machines.

If you like the action on the motif, I'd say there is no reason for an additional midi controller..

I agree, unless you need to play 2 keyboards together, why not just use the motiff for midi as well as it's internal sounds.

Kind of a strange comment about the MPC though. It sounds like you think you may need one or should have one, but are not really sure what it is. I say, you can't be missing it that much. The MPC is like a sequencer or sequencer trigger.

I think of it as a DJ kind of thing, but I fully admit to being old and prejudice about the hip hop techno stuff I hate!

ok thank you all...i was unsure but now i understand. i wont be getting a midi controller and i will most likely not be getting an mpc or anything. specially since the types of stuff i record are bands and authentic music not really synthetic.

I own a Motif ES7. I gig three/four times a week with it. It's a cool board. I don't know what Motif Model you have but mine can be used as a MIDI controller including as a transport controller for reaper. Meaning I can use the Stop, Play, Record and Rewind buttons.

I would recommend checking out http://Motifator.com. They have some good tips and guides on using your Motif

You also might want to buy the Analog PL-150 board while they still make them if your AXE has expansion slots.
