I am contemplating a purchase of one of these two keyboard synthesizers. The Roland, anounced at NAMM is not available yet, but its specs are and it is based on the current Fantom models.
Can someone share with me some insights about the strenghts and weaknesses of these two units?
Thank you, ES

Well until we actually **hear** the Roland unit, it may be difficult for anyone to offer any really useful advice.

How about the currently available Fantom S versus the Yamaha ES?

I purchased a Yamaha Motiff ES7, and wanted to get a Roland Phantom VSynth. Yamaha Motif ES7 has a website for more info..http://motifator.com. Also, Roland will send you a free DVD on the new Phantom vsynth, and perhaps has some DVD's on the Roland keyboard your considering. Very challenging to learn. You may find the Yamaha Motif ES7 is more affordable than the Roland synth. Either one rocks pretty decent.

Callanging to learn?

Chippy,
Thank you for the info.
Which did you think is challenging to learn.
I had the impression that the Famtom was easier to navigate than the Motif from other info I read.
The new Fantom x will have a touch sensitive color screen.
What do you think?
YOurs,
ES

Why don't you TRY the two synths for yourself and make up your mind which one is easier to use.

The Fantom X has a color screen, but it is not touch sensitive.

My personal opinion is that Roland has been repackaging their technology and putting out absolute SHIT with the Fantom series.

I have a Roland XP30 and don't plan to buy a newer Roland gear anytime soon...

I'm more than happy with my Motif 6.

It seems that the main complaints on the Fantom S were brought into consideration with the Fantom X. They expanded the polyphony to 128 which should make a lot of people happy. The sampling options on this board seem absolutely amazing... I'm not sure how they compare to the Motif. I've heard the Motif is pretty hard to navigate not a very intuitive set up. I'm sure the Fantom requires some good studying though as well..

yamaha motif ES6

i don't know about roland but i just purchased a new ES6 on ebay and although I'm really not a pianist, this thing is the frickin bomb...i'm so blown away by the sounds and options this thing
has i wouldn't go with anything else...
