Hey guys,
Thinking about purchasing a Yamaha MLA8 in order to acquire eight channels with good preamps. First thing that comes to mind is: How to patch!? All connections are in the back and I don't like hassling around.
So, what I was thinking is: Could I just purchase a 19" rack plate with 8 or 12 pre-drilled holes, put some 1/4" XLR combo Neutrik sockets in it and solder them to 8 or 12 XLR cable/plugs and connect that to the MLA8?
Two things to consider are
1. Does it just work that way? Solder a cable with an XLR plug to a combo socket and put the XLR plug in the XLR socket of a preamp?
2. Does the MLA8 take it (well)? In the manual it states, if I understand correctly, that the preamps take both mic and line level inputs
Besides specifically the MLA8, does any preamp handle this kind of wiring correctly?
If it really does work this way I will try to find my soldering iron and make a nice patch panel (is that the correct word for this type of direct connecting?).
Hope you guys can shine a light on this.
Kind regards
