Hi,

I've just been possibly offered 4 of these units. What are they like? How do they compare to something like the Behringer ADA8000 and SM PRO Audio PR8E etc?

Anyone!?

I just trying to find out if these preamps are worth having or whether they are going to be junk?

They are not junk, I used to own one. I personally would take an MLA7 over those other units you mentioned. Not sure about four of them, but if you need that many channels and they are inexpensive then you could do a lot worse.

Thanks for the reply! I've been given them for free!

For free, that's great! Really, those are some decent preamps, very usable. I got really good results with the MLA7 and my AKG C414 BULS.

This is very good news! I am thinking of changing some of the opamps in one of them to see what sounds I can get out of one of these pres.

I noticed that there is an ebay shop selling one of these for $375! Don't know if this is a typical price for one of these? If it is I may sell one or 2 of these and get either a new mic or possibly sell the Tampa aswell and buy one good pre or mic?

Anyway just some thoughts.

Typical used prices for MLA7 these days are somewhere around $125 to $150. That shop will probably never sell their unit because they've priced it WAY too high and more in the range of the "big brother" MLA8 (which improves on the MLA7 in just about every way).

I do agree with SonicAlbert though, these are not bad pres at all and for free they're even better! Congratulations!
