Is this mixing desk suitable for recording with, does everyone think? Ive been looking at it and it does appeal to me, either this or the slightly smaller (and cheaper!) MG16/6FX, also by Yamaha. Any one have any reasons for why i should choose either desk? (Yamaha is what I want to go for because i should be able to get them cheap of a friend of a friend!=))

How many tracks do you need to record at one time? You may be able to get by with the MG16 and spend the saved $ elsewhere.

Now, this is the thing im thinking about. For now, the MG16 would do me fine reffering to the number of tracks i need present. But if im looking later down the line to be uprgrading and getting more mics, if possible I'd want to be not buying lots of new equipment! As the main purpouse of the mixing desk would be for drums, but scratch guitars/bass/vocals would be used at the same time as the drum tracks, if more drum mics were to be bought to get a better sound on the drum kit, more tracks may be required, going out of the range of what is on offer with the MG16! (keeping in mind there is onlt 8 mono micrphone inputs on this model, which may prove to be n obstruction if more mics were to be purchased!). Looking at it from a future perspective, maybe getting a desk with more tracks NOW would save me having to upgrade to more tracks later if i was to begin upgrading, which is quite possible. getting the MG24 would mean that I have 16 mono microphone inputs, which is more than enough for the drums, plus probably micing amps and for vocals! Which model i get, in the end, is down to the compromise of going for it now and benefiting later, or holding back now and having to uprgrade later on! The main question is, are these two models by Yamaha, which hardly differ (at least from what i can see), apart from their amount of tracks, suitable for recording with, or are there better models by Yamaha within a similar price range which would serve me better?

Quite long winded that was, but i said everything i needed to say :)

The MG16/6FX is definitely the mixer I'm going to buy. I've done a ton of research on this site and other places and I just can't find anything bad about that board at all.
