Hello everyone. I am NEW on this forum. I searched my topic but did not find what I'm seeking.
Just upgraded to the Yamaha MG166CX 16-Channel Mixer. Have been using same eqp for 20 yrs. Iim really liking what I see and hear with the Yamaha MG166CX 16-Channel Mixer but I'm not sure of the best setup for running monitors on this board.
I'm running house speakers from the Yamaha MG166CX, however, need advise on send techniques and control for monitors. Should I send mix out to monitor amp via the AUX 1 or AUX 2 send or should I use the Group 1-4 out, or should I use the Monitor out?

Although monitor out sounds like best/simplest option, I can't get any of the three options above to work. I'm getting no sound on monitors.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jay

??

I assume I must be posting my question to the incorrect thread or website. Can someone give me some advise on a more appropriate forum?
thanks
J

I have the 32 channel version, and i use the aux's for monitor mixes. make sure you put up the aux knobs not only on the channel itself but the seperate aux knobs over on the right side of the board.

THANKS. I will try this again and review all knobs...

I feel your pain... I have the 12 channel version and haven't yet worked out the Aux sends etc. - Tried/failed...

Haven't needed a monitor mix either to date... no monitor!

If you learn anything useful, I'd appreciate it if you post back here..

Cheers

To send a channel to a given sub, you need to ensure that the appropriate button is pressed. There are buttons between the sliders that send the channel to the main bus (ST) and the subs. The main bus button is red, the others are grey.

I think that you can also select what gets sent to the monitor. There should be buttons to select the source for monitors - either ST (main stereo bus) or the sub-groups. It's in the manual...

Does that help? I'm just going by the Yamaha mixer we have at church.

I believe that the subs are post-fader - so the mix is what goes through.

So, RTFM, basically... :laughings:

Yeah, good call... too many devices, too many manuals! :)

The simplest and best option is to don't use it for monitors. Use your old mixer or another mixer for monitors. A full monitor console can provides separate submixes for the house console and the onstage monitor system giving you more control over the sound. It's a serious error to cut corners on the monitor system because it will have negative effect on what the audience hears.
