I've recorded the better part of an album on my MD8. None of the songs have more than 8 tracks. I want to transfer my recordings to Pro Tools 6.2.2 for mixing. I will be using an mBox, so I will only be able to transfer 2 tracks at a time. Does anyone know a good way to add a sync pop to 8 tracks at once so that I can sync these tracks back up once they are transferred? Or is there a better way that I haven't thought of?

Thanks!

MIDI MTC Sync

Hello Sirasb,

I have not used pro-tools nor the mbox, and I just got a Yamaha MD-8.

I looked through the internet and saw that pro-tools has MIDI capability--no suprise there. But, you Mbox does not have a MIDI or MTC IN.

If you have or can get your hands on a a MIDI Box you can hook it up to your computer and the MIDI out of the MD8. Then you can go into the MD8 utilities menu and turn on the MIDI MTC.

Now setup pro-tools -- I'll leave that up to you -- to syn to MD8's MTC and record one or two tracks at a time. Each should line up just fine with the others.

That's the theory, the application is up to you. I myself am a newbie so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Thanks,
Rob S.

the old fashioned way

hi there,

You can also record somewhere before or just after the song on each track a snap or something. Just set al tracks on record mode and hook up something that makes sound. You create a trancient sound on all tracks.

You can transfer per two tracks to your computer and just align the tracks according to the recorded trancient sound and you're done. Make sure you zoom in pretty far to make it accurate.

It's takes a bit more time,,, but if it's just for once or twice, I'll bet it's quicker then making an efford to sync the both (I tried it, but it took me to long).
