Yamaha MD8 - muting track problem

Has anyone ran into a problem with muting a track? This is the scenario....Track 1 (vox) and Track 2 (guitar). I click the "flip" switch so I can listen to just my guitar but I hear my voice bleeding through (faintly). Same thing the other way around. I've looked in my manual for a "muting" function but had no luck. It could be the infamous "user error" so I'm hoping someone out there can help me out. thanks
 
Is it possible your bleed through can be attributed to headphone leakage when you were tracking?

Some headphones, especially non closed cup designs can bleed a lot of sound back into a mic if the volume was up high enough at the time of tracking.

Hey...thanks for that. Duh...I totally think that's what's going on. I have some great Grado headphones but they are open....I'll try that. Thanks....! Happy Turkey Day!
 
It could also be crosstalk on the MD8. I have had in quite a few occasions had bleed from guitar onto other tracks with no possible way for the mic to pick up headphones.

Yeah...I'm not sure the more I think about it. I know I do need to buy different headphones (for vox recording) but when I record the guitar (direct line-in) my vox should not be heard. I'll mess around some more. It reminds me of old tape bleed through. EEK! This bites because I'm really getting a clean sound now...except for this.

Hi

I also think this could be crosstalk, specially if you use the pre-amplifier of the MD-8. I think loud signals can get on the other tracks if the MD-8 pre-amp is used (position 8 and more). I use an external tube pre-amplifier for guitars and vocals and I don't think I have that problem.
