Go to the minidisk forum, there is more there than I could type here. Also use the search button and see what pops up that way. The search button is great because it even finds things in other forums that might be relavent to what you want to know. I always search first at least 5 pages. Have fun :p

I like the layout, but theres alot better options out there.

They're not too bad, but for the money you can get a lot of stuff that's better. The MD format kinda sucks. No virtual tracks, data compression, blah blah blah... The MD-8 features are nice though. MIDI i/o, nice mixer, etc etc. I almost bought one until I heard one compared to a non-compressed format. So opted for the Fostex FD-8 and saved myself $700 that I used to get a digital mixer, a mic pre, and a new audio card. All used, but all working great!

Yo One Who Guards:

The MD8 does have virtual tracks; I have one in my studio; but, because I got the Yam 2816, I don't use it much. I just keep it there for guests to view a "more complex studio."

The MD8 does a nice job but it does not do 16 bit stuff.

Because the MD8 is an easy box to learn, the manual is clear in one or two spots, it is a product that many folks like.

The MD8's price is still around 900 pezzutos which indicates its popularity; however, for another 900 pezzutos, you can go digital in several formats and brand names.

I like the Yamaha; I hate the people who write their manuals. And, there are many other recording devices to baffle the average person. Your choice. But, it's your money and spend it where you get the most pleasure.
