I found this on craigslist - h t t p ://wichita.craigslist.org/msg/2339254749 . h t m l

(just remove the spaces on the http and html since I'm not aloud to post links yet.)

For 25 bucks I can't go wrong but I'm really hoping to get some more info on this thing.

Anyone see anything familiar?

If you don't know what it is or what it does, then why are you considering buying it ?

Because it looked like a 16 track mixer. Would you not buy a 16 track mixer for 20? Now, I know what a mixer is, I don't know what a monitor console is so I asked. I apologize for my actions.

Yamaha site has no manual for anything called an M1608, but has one for a MC1608M "Monitor Mixing Console" that would indeed be worth the 25, assuming it works of course.

Link to manual:

You are THE man. I did some google searches but I didn't find anything. Thanks for finding this :D

No need to apologize, I was curious as to why someone might want to buy something they apparently didn't know what was. Personally, I'd be suspicious of something that cheap {and I'm pretty cheap myself ! :D} though I would also be intrigued if I had had it in mind to look out for a mixer.

Looked cool enough and 25$ for a 16 track mixer was a steal... I just looked at it and instantly thought "Mixer" but the monitor console name threw me off so I figured I'd ask and I'm glad I did because a monitor console is something I REALLY don't need.

I learned something new though :)

Just to answer the question about "monitor consoles", they're aimed very specifically at the live sound (as opposed to recording) market. The main feature is the ability to provide a fairly large number of customised mixes for the monitoring system on stage where each musician wants to hear something slightly different--usually a lot of themselves and just enough of the other people/instruments to keep time.

It's quite an old design but, assuming it's in working order, at that price I'd take a punt. But, then, I have a history of collecting audio related junk!
