Just thought I'd share.
I picked up a Yamaha FG413S this past weekend and it truly is a nice acoustic to have around the studio. I had my friend play about 12 different acoustics while I pointed an MC012 mic and used my Extreme Isolation phones to find a good sound. We compared it with $1,000+ models by several big name manufacturers and the Yamaha sounded better with a mic pointed at it plain and simple. Of course, "better" is subjective but I guess as far as something that would sit well in a mix without a tubby bottom end is what I like better.
The FG413S seems to be the same build as the FG403, the 403 costs $50 less most places. The only difference seems to be the bindings and you cannot choose between finishes (I like the Sandburst Finish). I have played several of these FG series guitars and have yet to find one that had fret buzzing issues, bad setups, etc. Very consistent quality, not a laminate either.
I paid $250 out the door at GC with a set of .012 Elixirs including tax.
