At preasent I have a Phonic powerepod 740 which is fairly good but I am looking to get a Yamaha powered mixer either the EMX 212s or the EMX 312sc.

Would you say the Yamaha's have better mic pre's then the Phonics, its roughly £100 more so I gatehr ot must be better.

Anyone here familer with the Yamaha emx range?

Plus what are the SPX effects like , I mean I can always use my TC Electronic M350 as an outboards effects unit but looking at the specs on the Yamaha EMX 312sc I don't see an aux return or any aux's , the one thing good it also has is a one knob compression option on all the mic/line channels.

I had one for a while and loved it! I think i had the 312. Relatively lightweight but still had the power for the speakers.

One feature that was AWESOME handy, but i think it is NOT on the 'lowest' model (the 212) was a one knob compression effect. Obviously not as flexible as it could be, and not suggested for a studio. But on the road, having 4 channels that you could smoosh, or tame the dynamics on a wild singer, with just one knob was awesome! The feature worked well. but NOTE that it only had in on the first 4 channels i think... (4 mic channels)

Can't compare the pre's to the Phonics as I've never used the Phonics.

The other effects were ok, but obviously you can only use one effect at any given time, but if i remember right, a couple of the effects are 'combo' type. (Rev + chorus, for example)

Not sure on the Aux thing.. but there is a monitor mix. There are two amps, and you can either send out a stereo signal with one amp for each channel, or you can use one amp to power the 'main out' and one amp to power the 'monitor out'.

Thanks for your input.

The only downside is that the phantom power is only 12v so i don't think I can use my Shure beta 87a with it . ( I wonder if there is a another way round this)

The compression option sounds great very rare on a mixer at this price. Just wondered if it had a HZ input for guitars and bass. If not I do have a good DI box but not sure if it will work well with the EMX as I have tried it with other powered mixers i.e the soundcraft gigrac and it did'nt work well at all with them.

Plus whats the spx effects like are they decent enough?

Plus can I use an outboard effects with it?
