Are these really comparable sets? I faced the choice last autumn of going for the DTXplorers or the TD3's. Mainly due to budget constraints I had to choose the DTX, but I am not disappointed, as they offer a lot of expandability and upgradeability. My friend, who is a drummer went with the TD3's and apparently he's happy with them, and I've heard him produce good stuff with them, so IMO it's pretty safe to go either way..

Yeah ditto. I've played on both and if I had to choose, I don't know which way I would go either. I liked the Yamahas sounds, but really like the Snare pads of the Rolands. But again neither is a deal breaker, as you can always expand sounds with additional MIDI modules, and you can always upgrade pads.

I know for a fact that the mid-level and up Roland module whoop all modules in comparison. Not so sure about the TD3 though, probably comparable to the DTX.

i got a td-3.

the onboard sounds suck but it does the trick for trigger-to midi for triggering DFH. good enuff for that.

ive used the td-6 too, and the sounds are a lil better on the 6, and its got cooler stuff and the silly sounds too.

how are you planning on implementing this into your live/recording setup? FWIW, i paid $400 for my td-3 kit with a throne, kick pedal and a semi-broken peavy keyboard amp :) i scored on that deal.

watch craigslist.

I vote for Roland TD6SX. It's got mesh pads, pretty decent sounds, and it can be run into a PC for whatever you have on there. I got mine for 1800 new, so used you can probably hit TD3 range if you're smooth.

I'm just a sucker for mesh pads though, rubber ones just don't feel right and make an annoying thwack sound. I guess that's probably not a concern though, as an acoustic snare is so much worse.
