thinking of getting one for the studio.....599.00 @ guitar center. any thoughts/opinions on this keyboard?

I don't know anything about it, but I just read 1 comment from another place about it.

I'm sure someone will jump in and help.

"Before a week ago, I would not have agreed with you. However, I did try out a DGX-500 and I was pretty impressed by what you get. The keys are very light but they are touch-sensetive. I didn't really get a chance to listen to the sound in great detail (didn't have my headphones) but the piano decay was actually pretty realistic. I'd like to AB it with a P-60 to see how the sound compares. The P-60 does have Yamaha's very nice GHE keyboard, which is pretty heavy."

I have a new DGX 203

:) I just purchased a DGX 203 from Guitar Center and I put a post on this BBS to see if I could get some Information and thoughts on it.
Here is my 2 cents on using the DGX 203 thus far.
1. The Sweet Flute and Sweet Sax are really good patches. They flute is
better than some live players I have played with.
2. The Recording is pretty easy.
3. The arrangement of "My Favorite Things" is a great jazz piece. I am
tying to learn how to play it by what the LCD window shows but it is a
challange.
4. It says on the packaging that it is a Portable Grand and when I play the
Portable Grand patch there are some notes like B,C and D an octive below
Middle C that do not resonate correctly.
It is almost like the damper dose not lift up fully and allow it to resonate.
5. Some other of the patches that are very good are the Strings and
Slow Strings.
6. The Speakers are weak. They are not clear and bright like the Casio I
use to own. If you hook it up to a sequencer and amplifier it probably
would sound all right.
7. Overall - It is a pretty good unit and I am looking forward to getting it
hooked up to my Home Studio. The Yamaha Web Site is not much help.

If you're going to go for the DGX series then get the DGX-505 instead of the 500. The 500 still uses floppy drive the 505 uses Smart Media cards :D

The 305 and so I assume the 505 has a really nice feature that it records locally and can translate the recording to MIDI which can then be sent to the PC and revoiced, pretty nice since it's a large keyboard, not so good for use in the PC area.
