Hey everyone,

I recently brought home a Yamaha DD55 drum pad setup for recording in real time. I was trying to get it to trigger samples from my phrase sampler (a Zoom 224), but it's not triggering them.

The MIDI connections seem to be correct, since i can trigger notes on my synthesizer using the DD55. But when I daisy chain from the synthesizer to the sampler, I can only trigger the synth. The sampler does nothing. The sampler can be triggered by the synth keys, so the MIDI of the sampler is working.

Any thoughts? I was wondering if it has to do with the trigger mode of the sampler (gate, trigger, retrigger), but none of those options make a difference. I've got the MIDI channels set up right, and I've set the DD55 to trigger the proper MIDI notes. It's as if the notes just don't make it to the sampler. Oh yeah, and i can start and stop the sampler's sequencer using the DD55, so there's some MIDI info getting to it. Just not the notes!

I appreciate any advice or suggestions from anyone. It would really suck if I can't use these pads to trigger my own sounds!

Thanks in advance,
marcus

I have that problem too

I have the same problem with my DD55. The midi out does not seem to work. Not sure if this may be a problem with the midi out or if it is a configuration problem (in any case I checked the manual and settings and apparently everything was OK).
I will appreciate if you happen to know what the problem was.

Sorry I couldn't help

There is a free utility out there called MIDI-Ox that can help you diagnose what's actually coming into and out of your system.

Google it and try it.

You are trying to have your synth pass a MIDI signal thru. So the first thing you need to determine is - does the out on your synth function as a MIDI thru (some synths have 3 MIDI jacks in-out-thru and some have 2 jacks in-out/thru). Note: Somes synths do not have a thru function.

Have you tried to trigger the sampler direct from the pads without going through the synth?

The MIDI-ox sounds like it could be helpful
