Okay Guys,

Here's my Situation.
I have an Internal SCSI CDRW. It's Yamaha 2x2x6.

When I put a CD in it, almost immediately the tray comes back out.
The Recorder is about 2 years old, but I have only burned 12 CD's on it. If this thing is already dea-at that rate the Cd's ran me about $20-$25 each to burn.
The PC has been in a nonsmoking environment, and I use an IDE CD player for putting software into the PC (Which means I have used the Yamaha a total of 10 to 12 times.

Think my CDRW is dead or could the laser be dirty?

And if it is dead, What is the most reliable internal SCSI CDRW on the market?

Thanks,
Tim

That's a drag. It sounds to me like it's defective, but trying to clean it may be worth a try since it's not likely under any warranty. I had a CD doing a similiar thing, sprayed a can of compressed air in with the tray open and it worked again.

I'm assuming you have checked other things, like the IDE cable is secure, tried other disks etc.

Most reliable CD-RW, SCSI. Strange as it may sound - Yamaha. I'd understand if you don't want to buy Yamaha again. :) Plextor's are noted to be good quality as well. They have a 12X out!

CD-Burner

For me, it would be the same recommendation.

Yamaha, for me, represent the best buy (quality/price) But, the Plextor had the "best cotation" according with "pc magazine" (I do not remember the mounth of the issue)

I had an H.P. 7100 IDE... good for one year and a half, than... but I burned for, at least 250 cd s...

The point to try other brend of CD-Rom is really important. did you did that?

Good luck

Pierre
