Can any body tell me anything about this mixer? I was thinking about getting it with a 24 track hard drive recorder such as the alesis.

Hi,

I was searching for the 01v96 on this forum as well, as I am also going to be purchasing one to accompany my HD24.

Here are some of the reasons why I considered it in the first place:

There was some discussion here:
http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=92185&highlight=01v96

And a great review in Sound On Sound Magazine - Aug 2003:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug03/articles/yamaha01v96.htm

From SOS review by Paul White: To sum up, the 01v96 may be Yamaha's entry level digital mixer, but its sound quality and facilities are anything but entry level. The only advanced feature it lacks is onboard automation, but in all other areas, includinding 1/0 count, it exceeds expectations while reamining very afforable.

Of course you can still automate it however, by connecting it to a sequencer. Also, you can cascade two togther - room for future expansion.

It's great that it supports all 24 channels of ADAT lightpipe via the built in ADAT and the addition of a MY16AT 16 channel MINI-YGDAI card.

I've used many an 02r v2 and from what I can see, there's little difference between this and that (obviously there are differences) for eveyday practical use. Also Studio Manager.

Obviously I have got to go and demo it before I make a final comitment but I am already familiar with the interface, so if it performs well, it's a definate purchase. I see no reason why it wouldn't.

I think the only thing that would stop me considering this desk is if I had enough money for a Yamaha DM1000, but that's life! Donations to.... :)

Hope all that helps,

Stu

Hi,

I thought you might like to know that I did indeed buy the 01v96 and I'm well impressed. It's done every single task I've set it so far, with ease and quality. Including:

Control Surface for Pro Tools (Mac OS 10.3.2, PT 6.2.2). Including Scrub and Shuttle using the wheel.

Studio Manger control of the console - plug in USB, set one option on the desk, install driver and SM and it worked right away with no hassles at all... and I'm using a Beta version of Studio Manager!

Connected to an Alesis HD24 via 6 lightpipes and a word clock cable - no probs there at all. Also got the desk to control the HD24 for play, stop, rtz, track arming, locate points, etc. using a single MIDI lead and setting up MMC (MIDI Machine Control).

It's the perfect machine for my set-up, awesome. I'm well impressed with it.

Stu :)
