winamp says it's out of memory...So does *&%^Real Player. Obviously no help from RP tech, this has been goin on for about two weeks...but winamp just up and croaked on me too...I ctr/alt/del end tasked everything but Exployer and systray but still no go. However sometimes (and only sometimes) if I shut down and come back it will work (and no programs have been closed via ctr/alt etc either) I have emptied out files, switched stuff around, done everything I could think of...even deleted mail files...can't seem to find a winamp tech site...Has anybody gone thru this ? Didja get it fixed? How? Oh, and get this, if I go thru Power tracks to open files I've downloaded , sometimes it will play 'em and sometimes not..and sometimes it asks for mp3 to wav conversion and sometimes not..am I plagued? Cursed? Stupid? The only way I can hear anything sometimes is by going through Media Player...but what if one day it croaks too and then I'll start hearing the voices again and running naked in the streets asking for a little compassion from a cruel cruel world and then forget where I live and get arrested and then get beat up by monkeys dressed up like cops and.......

How about letting us know how much RAM you've got, and how much free HD space you've got on the drive that has Windows installed?

Thanks for answering!!! 4.06 GB free HD...64MB Ram is what's written on this practically hand-written receipt for this computer..."custom jobby" from a discount comp place......

Internet Explorer started giving me the "Not enough Memory" message after the crash... I have 128 megs and like 10 gigs free memory... I found a MSN disc laying around like they send you in the mail and installed it just like signing up for service.. In fact, I did sign up for their service but now I'm gonna cancel it now that I'm up and running.
THat took care of that problem, althogh I don't know why.

Fixed it thanx to Eddie N's advice to S8-N's recent crash...and I quote "do the cntrl+alt+delete thing and see whats running in the back ground... close down all the programs except explorer and systray... that should help.. it helped me alot ...it doubled the amount of tracks i could play...
for a more permanent solution to this problem , go to start/run...then type msconfig in the dialog box.. from the screen that pops up select the "start up" tap and uncheck all the boxes of all the programs that you dont need to load when windows boots up... that should be almost all of them except systray.. if after doing so the computer acts funny , by process of elimination keep checking boxes until your fixed...".This worked great and I printed it out to keep forever and ever......

Holy crap man. What did you have running in the background. The only background app I've ever known to really cause problems is MS Findfast...but even then I never had problems as serious as yours.

Glad you got it fixed.

Slackmaster 2000

Slack I had tons of crap running if I can remember...realplayer,app32 (?), all the stuff that goes with my cd burner, an automatic address and password filler-outer called Gator, NOBO (because this chick told me I had to have it)which is a sorta hack-blocker (I think it's all in her head...)and another thing ending in "tray" but not systray....I'm not sure getting rid of all that is what fixed it, tho, I think it was the run/msconfig thing that did the good thang....I haven't gone back in to put checks back up either, because everything's running so well.....gibs
