xt and xt20 sync problem

aight, this is what i am doing. i have 2 alesis xt20s and one xt. the problem is that the xt does not sync properly with the xt20s. when i turn them all on, the xt goes to internal clock automatically instead of external (as i have an xt20 as the master). if i turn the xt20 (master) off, then turn it back on the xt switches to external clock. anyone else run into issues with this?

try putting the xt as the master
so
xt into xt20 into xt20
 
is that the only way? cause i only use the xt if i have to considering it is only 16 bit and the xt20s are 20 bit. i am using a jlcooper data sync box, does that have anything to do with it?
 
You cannot mix wordsize across the machines like that... they are either ALL 16-bit, or ALL 20-bit when working with multiple machines/tapes....
 
really? i guess i always just assumed that as long as they had the same sample rate they would sync just fine. well, i guess i am off to buy my HD24 anyway. hahah!
 
I might consider trading my XT20 for your xt and some dinero :)

that may be possible. why do you want to get rid of your xt20 and replace it with an xt? how much would you want?
 
actually, i'm sorry, I didn't mean to get you excited. I wouldn't be getting enough and I don't want to rip you off either....
It was just that I'm kind of tight on cash and want to get some mics...
If I change my mind i'll let you know...
