I need a synth for my studio. I will be using it mostly as a controller, but I also want a stand-alone synth so I can gig without having to lug a computer along.

I've pretty music narrowed my choices down to the Roland XP30 and the PK6 Proteus. I'm going to listen to both of them this weekend, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get some opinions here. The XP30 seems pretty ubiquotous, which can be good or bad I guess. It looks like thay can be picked up on Ebay for around $450 or $500. Based on what I've read, the PK6 supposedly sounds OK but is built pretty cheap. I'm skeptical when the list price is $1299 and GC sells them for $599, especially when they're still fairly new. Hmmm.

The sounds that are most critical to me in order of importance are:

1. Drums
2. Acoustic Piano
3. Organs, E.Piano, and the ilk
4. Bass
5. Synth

I could care less about most dance, techno, trance, SFX, and beats. I also don't want to pay for a built-in sequencer I will never use.

What do you guys think? Other suggestions?

Aaron
