hi,
I am currently using the Roland XP30 alone with Cakewalk Sonar. What I am trying to do is using the MIDI in sonar to control my xp, however, I can't have the xp to play more than 1 MIDI track at the same time. Now, I know xp is multitimberal(?) and capable of playing back up to 16 channels. So, can someone advice me to set it up on both xp and sonar to get thiis work?
One thing that's really confussing me is the patches in sonar, I can't find the patches from my xp on sonar. How do I import them onto sonar?
thanks

thanks, but

hey, thanks for the sites, but, I have downloaded them, and...I don't know what to do with them?
When you say innstrument definition, do you mean the names from those patches in roland? Is sonar gonna regonize the patches from the XP after I download the definitions?
Please help out a little here, Thanks

Here's how ya do it...

A1A2,
I was facing the same problem. Here's what I did, and it works great.

1. First unzip the file into a directory you can find (I created one called XP stuff)
2. Then go under Sonar to the Instruments menu.
3. From there is a button to define a new instrument.
4. Direct it to the folder that contains the files that you unzipped.
5. choose the XP-30 from the list.
6. this should give you the XP-30 as an instrument.
7. then you should be able to assign the XP-30 banks to your MIDI channels and use the instrument definitions to run the XP-30 from inside Sonar.

good Luck,
bill

Is this the same XP30 definition file that comes with Sonar, or is it different?

A1A2, note that, for mulitimbral, you'll need to use the "perform" insrument definitions and put your XP30 in performance mode. This stuff is dealt with in the XP-30's manual and a bit in the Sonar manual. I've read through both but still had to play around a bit to get the thing to do what I wanted it to. And I'm still trying to figure out a way to make it easier. The XP30 instrument definition that came with Sonar seemed to me to have the patches named incorrectly, etc...
