I am not sure what the term is for this capability, but isn't Roland XP30 supposed to be able to play back up to 16 channels vi MIDI?
I use it alone w/ sonar, and I can only play one midi track at a time. How do I set the keyboard up so it can play more than 1 midi track at the same time? Or was it not built to do so??

Thanks

check the manual. I once recorded an XP-30 and it was multitimbral and multchannel.
Cheers, Andrés

You have to work with the XP30 in Performance mode to make it function as a multitimbral sound source.

brzilian is correct - on the front panel of your XP30 there is a patch button (for calling up one sound at a time) and a performance button (which it designed for using the XP30 as a MIDI sound module).

Once you are in performance mode you then hit the edit button which accesses several buttons (common, effects, MIDI & part). These buttons allow you to assign different sounds to each MIDI channel, assign effects pan, etc. etc. etc. (there are various windows you scroll through).

You will have to read through your manual to get a good enough understanding to fully utilize all the MIDI abilities.

MIDI can be tough to understand at first - but once you understand it it gives you a lot of options - and the XP30 is a very good keyboard with tons of decent sounds.
