I finally took the plunge today and bought XP Pro.

I've got it installed and working just fine except...it does not see my Delta 44. Do I need to physically uninstall the card?

I know the reccomendation is to do a complete install (which I will do eventually) but to save files I temporarily did just the update. Will the update see it?

Any info will be appreciated muchly.

Thanks,

Earl

It *should* see it.

Why don't you download a newer set of drivers from M-Audio (obviously XP drivers). Uninstall your old drivers (very important). Then reboot. XP should see the card and ask for the drivers.

If that fails, it might not hurt to try and move the card to a different PCI slot.

Well, now I'm stymied.

Moved Delta card to different slot and it strill doesn't see it.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Earl

If the 44 was already fitted when you installed XP, it won't see it because it doesn't have the drivers and it will ignore it. To make XP see the card, go into control panel and run the add hardware wizard. Have the new drivers ready on a floppy or in a unique folder on the hard disk.
I recommend you get the latest .29 driver from midiman.net. XP will complain that the driver is uncertified. Make it have it anyway.

Jim,

I did what you recommended and now Delta is working.

But when I click on the M-Audio icon in the control panel, this is what I get.

But, If I click on the icon in my Systray, it opens the M-Audio control panel.

????????

Save yourself a ton of grief and just do the fresh install. If you have files you need to keep, move them to a 2nd HD (if you have one) and they'll still be there after the installation is complete.

Brzillian is right...

Simply do a fresh install, I'll suggest to make a second partition during the install or in dos FDISK (if you have only 1 HD and if it's not already done --- keep at least 10gigs for your OS partition!)
and everything should be ok this way.

see ya

Yes, I've got a couple of HD's. A 60 gig internal and an 80 gig external Firewire. Both 7200 rpm.

Time is what I need more than anything. :D

Thanks all,

Earl

I didn't realise you had an earlier installation under an XP update.
The thing to do in that situation would be to run the Delta uninstaller that comes in the drivers download BEFORE installing the new operating system or if that's too late, before installing the new Delta driver.
You could do that now, but you may well have to re-run the driver instal after a re-boot.
This should clear out all old Delta files not applicable to your new setup. My pc has been updated from 98SE to 2000 and now XP without a clean re-install. I think that provided the machine is kept clean and outdated drivers are removed before the new operating system goes on, you should have plain sailing. If your Windows is in a bit of a mess, a complete fresh instal on a re-formated disk is a very good idea.
It's also a good opportunity to format in NTFS rather than FAT32.
