I was wondering if some of you would take a look at this article.

http://videoguys.com/TweaksWINXPVE.html

I do Video and Audio on the same machine, so I thought it might not do any harm to tweak the machine for video. It has alot more tweaks than most of the tweak guides that I've seen for audio. It also has alot of the same ones.

I've been running with this system for several months now with no apparent probems. But I suddenly started getting alot of drop outs. (I selected 8 bars of a soloed bass part and looped it and after a couple of times around the loop it dropped.) Very Strange.

Any way, if anyone would care to take a read through this tweak quide and point out anything that may not be condusive to Audio, it would be much appreciated!

TIA

Best bet for audio is http://www.musicxp.net/ . I'd do a comparrison between the two.. take some sort of back up of your system (ghost if you have it), then run the tweaks... that way if you have any problems just go back to the image you take...\

Just a suggestion.

Huh?

I just tried to adjust my latency settings a little to check that drop out again. (with the muted 8 bar loop) I moved the slider all the way to the right and it still dropped. Yet I can play the whole song ( 13 tracks with 2 effects on most of them) with the latency slider all the way to the left (23.2 msec)

Huh?

Thanks Porter I will compare the 2 documents myself.

Muted tracks are still processed... you need to make them archived for the computer not to read them... right click on the 'M' and select 'A' for Archive.

I understand that. But why would it drop on an 8bar loop soloed, with the latency turned all the way up, and not drop on all 13 tracks playing with latency turned all the way down??

Could it be just a glitch in my system. (if "glitch" is really a technical term) or what?

Any thoughts

I don't know why, but for some reason Sonar is not very happy when looping... :( ;)

I'm almost glad to here it isn't just me.

I have 3 hard drives

1 for Audio/Video
1 for play, internet access, home networking, etc...(untweaked)
1 for Audio/Video "project files"

Just for grins I installed Sonar onto my untweaked HD. Not only was I able to play the loop for quite some time, but the CPU usage meter went down by 5-8%. There must be something wrong with the way I tweaked my system.

I'm going to redo my Audio HD and tweak it according to http://www.musicxp.net/.

I will post my results here if anyone is interested.

No. I have winodows xp pro on C and D and no OS on E.

I used the same xp install disk on both and was able to activate both, no problem.

I probably could have just partitioned one HD and put the OS on each of those but I had the extra HD laying around so I thought I would give it a shot.

I thought I read somewhere that partitioning a single HD for two OS's wasn't the ideal anyway. ??

I don't know! Just playin around, testing things.

The config is as follows:

HD 0 master on IDE 1
CDRW slave to IDE1
DVDRW Master on IDE2
HD1 on maser of PCI ATA 100 Controller card IDE1
HD2 on master of PCI ATA 100 Controller card IDE 2

if you were interested

why put the OS on both C and D drives. Why not just on the C (master)?

Actually all 3 hard drives are on master IDE's. I put the OS on 2 of them because it allows me to do the dual boot thing. One of the hard drives I tweak for my Audio. And the other one I leave it as is, no tweaking involved.

On the one that I tweak I don't have my home network setup in it, nor do I even have internet access setup on it. Which I have found is a real pain now. I don't know how to reverse it because I don't know exactly which xp services to start to allow it to work. Does it cause problems in an audio disk to have internet setup, if your not connected while in Sonar?

I wonder how many people partition their "C" hard drive and put an OS on each?

Boy I'm just full of it!
....questions I mean!!
