So, windows security center....it's new with SP2 apparently.

How should I go about using it with recording? disable it completely (if so, where do i do this)? just turn off auto updates? firewall? i'll probably install AVG anti-virus....

any comments? ideas? etc. ? ha

i can't seem to find where to disable it...it just brings up the security center window from the control panel..

well, I found the security center, it's a service.

however, I can't have windows firewall on with the service stopped, or I get an error when I try to use the net.

is this reccommended? haha. i mean, can I have no firewall and be ok?

on my RECORDING hardware profile (when I'm actually recording/mixing important stuff and need things to run smoothly), my network card is disabled anyway...so maybe I'll keep security center open on my main profile?

Use a router on your network connection, and let it do the firewall function.

Your DAW should be as stream lined as possible, especially if you are planning on multi-track recording. Mine is set up for 16 channels (two Q10) on Athlon XP-2000 and nForce2 board.

I have all eye candy and superfluous services disabled, and all unnecessary windows components uninstalled. No antivirus, no firewall. The end result is the OS occupying a 53mb commit size in task manager. It typically requires 128mb, so a substantial savings in memory and cycles is achieved by stream lining.

Just disable your network card (either in bios or hardware manager), networking services will disable themselves

You can run a freeware program called gamexp. Its for gaming but it will disable some of the extra little toys windows has. but like all tweeking tools, do so at your own risk and back up your system before doing it. It has a back up option with in the program any way.
